Professional Experience

I am a lawyer, Chartered Mediator, Chartered Arbitrator and experienced adjudicator. In addition to my private practice as a an arbitrator and mediator, I am Small Claims Mediator in British Columbia Provincial Court, a member of the British Columbia Review Board, an Adjudicator under the Independent Assessment Process for the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat, an unjust dismissal adjudicator and wage recovery referee under Part III of the Canada Labour Code and the adjudicator (as delegate of the Administrator) under the British Columbia Tobacco Control Act.

I have been a lawyer for more than 25 years and have been involved in alternate dispute resolution since 1995. I have acted as a decision maker in thousands of disputes involving interpretation and application of statutes, contractual issues, negligence and valuation of damages in the areas of residential tenancy, criminal injury compensation, insurance and strata property. I have mediated a wide range of cases involving commercial, contractual and strata property disputes.

I have worked as a lawyer in private practice and as a public policy consultant, undertaking comprehensive studies aimed at law reform in the fields of policing, criminal justice and administrative law.

Education

I have a Bachelor of Commerce and Business Administration and a Bachelor or Laws from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of B.C. (Cert. Con. Res.)

Roster Memberships and Professional Organizations

I am a member of the British Columbia Mediator Roster (Civil), the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of British Columbia, the Domestic Commercial Arbitration panel of the British Columbia International Commercial Arbitration Centre (BCICAC), the AMEX (American Express) Dispute Resolution Roster and the Adjudicator Roster for the Student Appeals Branch, British Columbia Ministry of Education. I am also a Chartered Member of the ADR Institute of Canada (Mediator and Arbitrator) and a Member and Director of the British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute (BCAMI).

Community Involvement

I am a director of Watari Research Association (www.watari.org) an organization whose mission is to facilitate positive change in the lives of at-risk children, youth, their families and communities primarily in the Downtown Eastside. I enjoy family, friends, yoga and being outdoors.
