Professional Experience

As a lawyer, I have focused throughout my career on helping people resolve disputes through mediation, arbitration or other processes which reflect their needs. I enjoy helping people understand and deal effectively with issues of communication and conflict.

I have mediated partnership, business, insurance, construction, consumer and family law issues. I have also arbitrated or adjudicated disputes involving business, construction, strata properties, residential tenancies, motor vehicles, municipal bylaws and claims of physical and sexual abuse at Indian Residential Schools.

I am involved in the Provincial Court Civil Mediator Program both as a mediator and as a mentor and have taught Negotiation and Dispute Resolution within the Property Management Program at Langara College. I am also an instructor of courses on administrative justice for the B.C. Council of Administrative Tribunals.

Some of the organizations for which I am accredited as a mediator and arbitrator include: the B.C. Mediator Roster; the B.C. Arbitration and Mediation Institute and the B.C. International Commercial Arbitration Centre. Prior to focusing on dispute resolution, I was involved in the resource industry and had a private legal practice.

Education

I have a B.A. in French Canadian Literature from Laval University, an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia and significant training in interest based mediation for commercial, construction and family law.

Professional Organizations

I am a member of the Law Society of B.C., the Canadian Bar Association (Executive member of the ADR Subsection), the B.C. Council of Administrative Tribunals, the B.C. Arbitration and Mediation Institute (Advisory Committee member of the Strata Mediation Pilot Program), the ADR Institute of Canada, Family Mediation Canada and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.

Community Involvement

I have volunteered for a number of organizations and served as Vice-Chair and Treasurer on the Board of Directors of Choice School for Gifted Children, Chair of the Parent Advisory Council, coached soccer and been a Beaver Leader for Scouts Canada
